He was shy and therefore aggressive, hypochondriac and then, defeatist. He believed more in need and in selfishness than in mercy and goodness. He was an anxious loner of a company, a sociable who abhorred confraternization. He was hard but also sensitive to tears and with his friends as loyal as fickle. The black hours of Pla, saturated with pessimistic scepticism, were pronounced during the nightly rises and the bright dawns.
